It's there as part of the fictionality for the sub template. I designed the template originally so that the accessories sub templates could be written without any formatting. Add an argument to the template, like {{Nintendo hardware|NES}} and you will see the NES accessories displayed with it. Dread Lord CyberSkull ?? 13:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

proper footer format

Would anybody oppose this version? It is much closer to the usual footer format found across wikipedia.

I can also restaure the "subheaders", but I think it makes the template takes excesive evrtical space (and absence or presence of color doesn't change that.):

This is looking good

Thanks to many contributions (including mine if i may say so), this discussion page is looking good. But why was 'Wii' written as 'Nintendo Wii', and should 'Virtual console' and 'Wiiware' be listed in the Wii brackets? DSi

I noticed that someone split the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo DSi. I was under the idea that the DSi is just another version of the Nintendo DS.184.77.221.150 (talk) 04:42, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

It's not, not exactly anyway. It isn't as major an improvement over the DS/DS lite as the DS was over the Game Boy Advance for example, but it does have slightly improved hardware and can play games that can't be played on older systems, making it similar to the step up from the Game Boy to Game Boy Color. Since the GBC is listed separately from the Game Boy/Game Boy Pocket, it makes sense to separate the DSi from the DS as well.-Jeff ^(talk) 00:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

There is no mention of the Twin Famicom here or in the FDS article. Is there a reason for this? While it wasn't made by Nintendo, it is a licensed product.

What's the criteria to decide how notable they need to be? Super Famicom Box has already it's own article and is included on the template, so naturally Famicom Box should be too. I see it as a matter of completeness. You're not getting my point. I'm saying that neither of these articles appear notable enough to have their own article, let alone be added to the navbox. I doubt Super Famicom Box has any notability on its own, or a lot of these real-obscure Japan-only peripherals, so I think an AfD might be in order for that one. I fully understand what you are saying. I found the Wikipedia guidelines on Notability and read through them. It says, "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list". Based on that, these topics may or may not be notable enough; it depends on the research used to produce the article which hasn't been done yet. If someone wants to put in the effort to find significant coverage from reliable sources, then there would be no problem with the notability of these articles. These could potentially turn out to be good articles. It's not for you nor anyone else to decide that they would not be notable enough before having done any research. Understanding the definition of portability

Apparently, we need to define "portability". The Switch and Virtual Boy are devices that can function without an external screen and be easily set up on a tabletop. You cannot connect your portable Virtual Boy to your TV and use it as a Home console with extra processing power, like the hybrid Switch.

Both uses a wall outlet like a home console. Needing external power is part of the definition of "home console". Anyway, this is not worth it. VB is a portable device. The discussion was about why the Switch needs a TV and is not a portable, on-the-go device. I'm not saying it's "okay" as it is. I just do not want to be bothered anymore about this topic. However, you are defeating the purpose of a navigation template by listing devices that do not fit the group definition. "Hybrid Nintendo Switch consoles". What makes the Lite a "Hybrid" as opposed to a handheld? You say "Switch models all over the place". Quite an exaggeration. Two locations. Furthermore, there is only one console that has an article. Per template guidelines, non-articles should be avoided. I think we should stick to using the real product names as marketed (it's a Nintendo Switch, it's a Wii), plus there is space anyway since it's a navbox displayed on desktop only.

Categorizing devices as "portable" was meant as a broad generalization of its capabilities. Wikipedia is not a tool to market products. Needed specifics can be read in the article itself. Also, please see wp:commonname. We are not a promotional piece for any company. Templates should have a consistent formatting. Here, wikilinks use common abbreviations or the article name. Further categorization

  Pokemon Mini is dedicated because had a limited range of 5 in-house carts for it. You cannot put it in the same category as a real retail portable console like Game Boy or DS. UltimateDisco (talk) 11:20, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

  I also think a category for Virtual Boy only to be a bit too much, that is why I suggested we use the category "Portable" instead of "Handheld" so we can group Game Boy and Virtual Boy side-by-side.

  Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are Hybrid consoles though. It is not just a marketing concept, it is a real category of consoles inaugurated by Nintendo but already followed by other devices like the Steam Deck.
